The short version

VAEL runs fully local. Your Today's Plan, Notes, Canvas, Calendar, Timer, and everything else you create in VAEL is stored only on your own computer. It is never uploaded to a server that VAEL controls, and no account or sign up is needed to use it.

What VAEL itself does check

Once a day, VAEL checks a small file hosted at usevael.com to see if a newer version is available, so it can let you know. This is an ordinary file request. The web server involved may log standard request information (such as your IP address) the same way any website's server logs its visitors, but VAEL does not attach any personal information to this request, and does not read anything back from it beyond a version number.

Purchases

If you buy VAEL Horizon, your payment is handled entirely by Gumroad, a third party payment processor. VAEL never sees or stores your card details or billing information. Gumroad's own privacy policy covers information you give them during checkout. When you activate a Horizon license key inside VAEL, the app sends that key to Gumroad's license verification service to confirm it is valid, nothing more.

The optional Claude extension

If you choose to install the free VAEL extension for Claude Desktop, it allows Claude, running locally on your own machine, to read and edit your VAEL data on your request. This connection happens entirely on your own computer between two pieces of software you have installed. VAEL itself does not receive anything from this connection. Anthropic's own privacy policy governs how Claude Desktop and Claude handle information once the extension passes it along.
